Who was Satish Dhawan, after whom ISRO launch site is named?
Padma Vibhushan-awardee Satish Dhawan was an Indian rocket scientist who became ISRO's third Chairman in 1972, serving a 12-year tenure. Late IISc Director Dhawan is credited with setting up India's first supersonic wind tunnel, for aircraft testing. Following his death on January 3, 2002, ISRO's satellite launch centre at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, was renamed as Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
