Why are bank employees going on a nationwide strike on Jan 27?

Bank employees' unions have called for a nationwide strike on January 27. The strike is aimed at pressing for government approval to implement a five-day workweek by declaring all Saturdays as bank holidays. The unions are ready to extend daily working hours by around 40 minutes to ensure there is no reduction in total weekly working hours.
