Indian cities are facing extreme heat events this year, with 49 of the world's 50 hottest cities on Wednesday being Indian. Solar heating and pre-monsoon radiation are rapidly warming land surfaces across India, which is getting compounded by cloudless skies and below-normal winter snowfall in Himalayas. Rising sea surface temperatures are also contributing to weakening cooling weather systems.
