Why are farmers letting their mangoes rot on trees in Tamil Nadu?

Farmers in Tamil Nadu's Madurai have opted to either let mangoes rot on trees or cut down the entire plantations. They've taken this decision to avoid mounting financial losses as the farm-gate price for the Totapuri variety has crashed to a record low of ₹3/kg. Production costs and labour charges have far exceeded the market value of the fruit.
