The cybersecurity industry has named hacking groups for decades to establish a baseline understanding of who is attacking whom and how, Google executive Shane Huntley explained. Naming these groups helps security teams recognise threats more quickly, prepare defences, prevent attacks and investigate incidents promptly. It also enables researchers to identify patterns across campaigns.
