Why are residents of Goa's Panaji protesting against Casinos?

Residents of Goa's Panaji have launched protests under the banner 'Ponjekars Against Casinos' after reports that a larger offshore casino vessel was allowed to anchor in Mandovi River. Activists say such casinos harm marine ecosystem and threaten fisherfolk livelihoods. They also urged the government to stop promoting the capital as "sin city" and implement a plan to remove all casinos.
