Why are tech giants sending thousands of AI engineers to customer offices?

Major tech giants like OpenAI, Microsoft, Amazon and Anthropic are sending thousands of "forward-deployed engineers" to client offices to help firms successfully implement AI systems. These engineers work on-site to design, integrate and deploy AI tools. An MIT report said 95% of enterprise generative AI pilots failed to generate measurable profit, mainly due to implementation challenges.
