Why are turtles being fed mayonnaise, vegetable oil after oil spill in Israel?

Turtles rescued from an oil spill in Israel are being given mayonnaise as medicine. Officials at National Sea Turtle Rescue Center said the condiment is helping to clear the reptiles' digestive tracts. The turtles are being given vegetable oil to thin the tar, and then mayonnaise to dilute it and remove it from the sides of the stomach and intestines.
