Why are UP farmers planting turmeric alongside crops elephants eat?
Around 100 farmers in Uttar Pradesh's Terai Elephant Reserve have been trained to grow turmeric alongside or instead of crops such as paddy, maize and sugarcane, which attract elephants. Some farmers in Katarniaghat were already growing turmeric, and elephants didn't appear to be drawn to it. The initiative aims to improve turmeric yields and offset losses from elephant-related crop damage.
