Why are US elections held on the first Tuesday in November?
The tradition of holding US elections on first Tuesday after the first Monday in November began after US Congress passed an act in 1845. As the US was largely agrarian, November was chosen as harvest season was over. Sunday was reserved for church and rest, while Monday allowed voters to travel to polling stations, making Tuesday the most practical option.
