Why can't Trump leave a 'dead man's switch' to destroy Iran if he is assassinated?

Trump's warning that Iran would face "complete destruction" if he were assassinated has fuelled speculation over a possible "dead man's switch". However, US law doesn't allow such a mechanism. If a president dies, vice president immediately becomes commander-in-chief and assumes full authority over military without being legally bound by the predecessor's military orders or verbal instructions.
