Why did Congress pick VD Satheesan as Kerala CM over KC Venugopal?

An Indian Express report said that while a majority of Congress legislators favoured KC Venugopal becoming Kerala CM, support from Congress allies for VD Satheesan emerged as a major factor in choosing him. Congress allies like IUML, Kerala Congress (Joseph) backed Satheesan. Meanwhile, grassroots workers of Kerala Congress also demanded that Satheesan be made CM, the report added.
