Why did monsoon reach J&K before Delhi despite coming from the south of India?

The southwest monsoon reached J&K on Wednesday, a day before it reached Delhi. Weather experts said this isn't unusual as monsoon movement is determined by wind flow, prevailing regional weather systems and the monsoon's advance pattern. The monsoon moves through Himalaya's foothills, which is also why it arrives in Delhi after it has arrived in states north of it.
