Why did NASA send 'organ chips' of Artemis II crew into space?

NASA sent USB-sized 'AVATARS' (A Virtual Astronaut Tissue Analog Response), or organ chips, to space, made using bone marrow tissue derived from cells donated by the four Artemis II astronauts. The experiment will study the effects of deep-space radiation and microgravity on human health. It will also help in improving astronaut safety for future missions to Moon, Mars and beyond.
