Why did Steve Jobs sell 99.999% of Apple shares, now worth ₹5 lakh crore?

In mid-1997, after Apple acquired Co-founder Steve Jobs' NeXT, he received 1.5 million Apple shares but sold all except one. Jobs later said he had lost hope that Apple's board would turn things around and did not expect the stock to rise. Accounting for stock splits, those shares would be worth nearly $56 billion (₹5.4 lakh crore) today.
