Why did the operation to save techie who drowned in drain in Noida fail?

The attempts to save Yuvraj Mehta, a techie from Noida who fell into a waterlogged drain in Sector 150, failed because the ropes thrown to save him fell short. An officer said firefighters used a crane and ladders, but that also didn't bridge the gap. Mehta stood on the car for about 90 minutes before he drowned.
