Why do eyes twitch?

Eye twitching is an uncontrollable type of movement of eyes, muscles in eyelid or parts of face immediately around eyes. A common cause of eyelid twitching is ocular myokymia, which is benign. Ocular myokymia can be caused by being tired, having too much caffeine, or stress. One cause of persistent, frequent eye twitching is a condition called benign essential blepharospasm.
