Why do footballers walk out with children before match?

Children who walk onto field holding the hands of players before the start of a football game are known as 'player escorts' or 'mascot children'. There are several reasons players walk out with children including promoting children's rights campaigns. It's also believed that they make players look like role models and make the team seem like it has good values.
