Why do goalkeepers wear different colours in football?

According to football laws, goalkeepers wear jersey of colours that distinguish them from teammates, opponents, the other goalkeeper and match officials. This helps referees quickly identify who can legally handle the ball inside the penalty area. It also prevents confusion during crowded set-pieces and fast attacking moves.
