Researchers found older adults face higher risks from COVID-19 and flu due to ageing lung cells. The research points to lung structural cells which drive "inflammaging", a chronic low-grade inflammation linked to ageing. These cells send distress signals that overstimulate the immune system, which leads to a harmful build-up of immune cells, similar to those linked to severe COVID cases.
