Why do some countries 'fall back' an hour as Daylight Saving Time ends?

Daylight Saving Time will end on November 3 in 2024, with clocks rolling back one hour in some countries. It's the practice of moving clocks forward by one hour during summer months. The practice is followed in most of North America and Europe because they believe the time shift will allow them to use the hours before sunset more productively.
