Why do two pilots on a flight never eat the same meal?

Airlines ensure the captain and first officer don't eat the same meal to reduce the risk of both falling sick simultaneously. Food poisoning could affect both pilots if they consumed contaminated food. By serving different meals, airlines ensure one pilot can remain fit to operate aircraft. On some long-haul flights, pilots may also eat at different times for added safety.
