Why do women look at Moon through a sieve on Karwa Chauth?

Karwa Chauth’s sieve ritual is linked to the folk tale of Queen Veeravati, whose seven brothers tricked her into breaking her fast by placing a lamp behind a sieve to imitate the moon. The ritual also symbolises filtering negativity from marriage and strengthening love and respect. Looking through the sieve is believed to soften moonlight for tired eyes after fast.
