Why does Diljit say he is a Punjabi and not an Indian?

When Raj Shamani asked Diljit Dosanjh why he calls himself a Punjabi and not an Indian, he replied that he comes a small place in Punjab and until a few years, most people didn’t know much about Punjab or Punjabi songs, so he is proud of his native place and singing Punjabi songs and likes taking Punjab’s name globally.
