Why govt is calling for fuel conservation despite having 60 days of stock?

Centre asserted there's no fuel shortage, while noting 60 days of crude oil, 60 days of natural gas and 45 days of LPG rolling stock. However, there's a "huge cost being borne" by the nation as crude prices spike amid global crisis, it added. OMCs are absorbing ₹1,000 crore/day loss, with nearly ₹2,00,000 crore under-recoveries in Q1 FY26, it stated.
