Why have petrol and diesel prices been hiked for 3rd time in 10 days?

Fuel prices were hiked for the third time in less than 10 days. The price increase is due to the Middle East war, which impacted 40% of India's crude oil and the price of crude oil which was reportedly $69.01/barrel in February rose to $109.31/barrel on May 21. The conflict increased India's total expenditure on oil imports by reportedly 60%.
