Why is Bengaluru's iconic Urvashi Cinema being demolished?

Urvashi Cinema, a 56-year-old iconic single-screen theatre in Bengaluru, is being demolished following a Supreme Court order after a long-running lease dispute. Inaugurated by Dr Rajkumar in 1970, the theatre screened thousands of films in five languages. Its demolition has left members of the Kannada film industry and generations of movie lovers saddened by the loss of a cinema landmark.
