India observes April 21 every year as ‘Civil Services Day’. The reason is because on April 21, 1947, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of Independent India, addressed first batch of civil servants at Delhi’s Metcalfe House. He referred to civil servants as ‘steel frame of India’ in speech. Civil Services Day was first held on April 21, 2006.
