Why is Europe facing a potato shortage?

Europe is facing a potato shortage as the hottest summer wiped out around 3.5 million tonnes of potatoes across nations, reports claimed. Extreme heatwaves and severe drought conditions across Britain, Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands have reduced potato yields by as much as 20%. Potato prices in Germany have increased to €240/tonne (₹26,404) from €15/tonne (₹1,650) in June.
