Why is Pride Month celebrated in June?

During the 'Pride Month', globally celebrated in June, the experiences, struggles and futures of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) people are discussed. The celebration began in June 1970, commemorating the Stonewall uprising. A violent police raid was conducted at gay bar Stonewall Inn in New York on June 28, 1969, which was followed by protest riots seeking gay liberation.
