According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, the July 13 full Moon is called the Buck Moon because the antlers of bucks or male deer normally grow around this time. "Early summer is normally when the new antlers of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur," said NASA. It's also referred to as the Thunder Moon.
