Why is the US’ Brooklyn jail holding Venezuelan Prez considered a ‘hellhole'?

New York's Brooklyn jail, holding ousted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, is often called "hellhole". The prison is reportedly plagued with rat infestations and violent outbreaks. There were reports of cockroaches in food and mould in showers. In 2019, thousands of inmates were left in freezing cells after a power outage. It also housed sex offender Jeffrey Epstein's aide Ghislaine Maxwell.
