Why soil from brothels is used to make Goddess Durga's idols?

Goddess Durga's idol is considered incomplete unless the soil from a prostitute's courtyard is used in its making. It's said that when a man visits a prostitute, he leaves all his virtuous deeds in her courtyard. This makes the soil pure, while the man becomes a sin bearer. The sculptor must respectfully ask for the soil to make the idol.
