Why supply chain attack on popular coding tool Axios is significant?

Axios, a popular internet coding tool downloaded around 300 million times/week, has been hit by a supply chain attack. It "lets apps talk to the internet", runs inside almost every app on a person's phone and website visited, as per ex-Hike Chief of Staff Anish Moonka. Ex-Tesla AI Director and OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy said the malware almost "pwned" him.
