Why was Gojek Co-founder Makarim jailed for buying Chromebooks in Indonesia?

Super-app Gojek Co-founder and Indonesia's ex-education minister Makarim was jailed for 10 years in a corruption case on Tuesday. Makarim bought over a million Google Chromebooks for schools during COVID-19, a decision prosecutors claimed was influenced by Google's investment in Gojek. They also alleged he overpaid and tailored tender specifications to fit only ChromeOS.
