Why was Washington Sundar picked ahead of Axar Patel against South Africa?

India picked all-rounder Washington Sundar ahead of vice-captain Axar Patel against South Africa as the team management leaned towards a bowler who could operate in powerplay, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said. He explained the off-spinner was chosen with South Africa’s left-handers in mind. He added the side also felt Rinku Singh was needed as an eighth batting option.
