Why won't Artemis II astronauts land on Moon?

Artemis II is a test flight to validate SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft with crew aboard for the first time. A lunar landing requires a separate lander, which is still being developed by SpaceX and Blue Origin. NASA restructured the Artemis program in February 2026, pushing the first crewed Moon landing from Artemis III to Artemis IV, targeted for 2028.
