Wife of automobile inventor made the world's first road trip

In 1888, Bertha Benz, business partner and wife of automobile inventor Karl Benz, undertook the first long-distance trip in the history of petrol-powered vehicles. Without informing Karl, Bertha made a 180-km round trip between two German cities to prove his invention's sustainability. Travelling with her sons, Bertha stopped at a chemist for fuel, making it the 'world's first petrol pump'.
