World record 768-km-long lightning megaflash confirmed by UN body

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on Monday announced that it had confirmed two new lightning megaflash world records. On April 29, 2020, thunderstorms produced a 768-km-long lightning strike over the southern US, it said. WMO also identified world record for the long-lasting lightning flash, which lit up the skies over Uruguay and northern Argentina for 17.1 seconds in June 2020.
