World's first HIV-to-HIV lung transplant successfully performed in US
Surgeons at NYU Langone Health in New York have successfully performed world's first HIV-positive-to-HIV-positive lung transplant. The surgery, performed in March, involved a 56-year-old patient living with HIV who received lungs from a deceased donor who was also HIV-positive. Experts said this could significantly expand the donor pool for HIV-positive patients with end-stage lung disease.
