Scientists have identified 241 microscopic amber fragments inside a coal seam in China's Xinjiang region, dating back about 385 million years. Reported in Science Advances, the find is considered the world's oldest chemically verified amber and predates previous record by nearly 65 million years. The resin came from an unidentified ancient plant during the Middle Devonian period, researchers said.
