World's 2nd largest radio telescope at Arecibo Observatory collapses

Arecibo Observatory's radio telescope in Puerto Rico, the world's second-largest single-dish radio telescope, collapsed after instrument platform fell overnight. It served as a resource for radio astronomy, planetary and geospace research for 57 years. It was made up of a 1,000-foot-wide dish antenna built into a depression that reflects radio waves from space to a 900-tonne instrument platform.
