World's first text message was sent on this day

A 22-year-old test engineer, Neil Papworth, sent the world's first ever text message on December 3, 1992. The employee of the Sema Group in the UK used a personal computer to send the message to the phone of his colleague, Richard Jarvis. The message, which was sent via Vodafone network to Orbitel 901 mobile telephone, read "Merry Christmas".
