The world's first ever user-editable website, or Wiki, was created on March 16, 1995. Called WikiWikiWeb, the website was developed by Ward Cunningham who described it as "the simplest online database that could possibly work". Further, it was officially launched on March 25, 1995. Notably, free online encyclopedia Wikipedia is by far the most popular wiki-based website.
