World's highest gamma-ray telescope in Ladakh to go live later this year

The world's highest and India's largest gamma-ray telescope which has been set up in Ladakh will go live this year. Named Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment Telescope (MACE), the telescope is situated nearly 4,300 meters above the sea level and runs on solar power. MACE will detect short flashes of Cherenkov radiation, produced when high-energy cosmic gamma rays strike Earth's atmosphere.
