World’s largest telescope ELT’s dome moves for the 1st time ever

European Southern Observatory shared a video showing the dome of the world's largest telescope, the under-construction Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), moving for the first time ever. The dome moved 10 m on either side at a speed of 1 cm/second, which will later increase to about 140 cm/s. The dome's skeleton, currently weighing 2,500 tons, will eventually weigh 6,100 tons.
