World’s longest earthen dam is in Odisha, took 10 years to build

Between 1868 & 1957, Odisha was under water for 27 years. An engineer M. Visvesraya solved this problem by building world’s longest Hirakud Dam in Odisha. It drains an area twice the size of Sri Lanka & took 10 years to be built. As a matter of pride, it was India’s first river valley project after Independence.
