xAI illegally ran natural gas turbines for data centres: US agency

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has ruled that Elon Musk's xAI illegally operated dozens of natural gas turbines to power its data centres in Tennessee. The AI startup had argued that the turbines didn't need air quality permits as they were being used on a temporary basis. However, the EPA said that the generators were not exempt.
