An international group of researchers has developed "twistron" yarns that generate electricity when they are stretched or twisted. Made from carbon nanotubes, 10,000 times thinner than a human hair, researchers powered a small LED which lit with every stretch of the yarn. It could be used for harvesting energy from the motion of waves or from temperature fluctuations, said researchers.
