Zakir Hussain's mother had changed his surname on saint's advice after his father fell ill

Ustad Zakir Hussain's mother Bavi Begum had changed the tabla maestro's surname few days after his birth based on a saint's advice, he'd revealed in 2018. "When I was born, my father's...health deteriorated...A saint...told [my mother] to call me 'Zakir Hussain'...instead of giving the family name 'Qureshi'," Hussain had said, adding that the saint said the name would bring luck.
